The Derby winner Kettledrum was strongly fancied to follow up his Epsom success, and he had the pacemaker Yorkminster to help him. Unfortunately Yorkminster refused to race up front, leaving Kettledrum to reach the front too soon and make him prone to being snipped on the line. In the end it was rank outsider Caller Ou who pipped him by a head in 3 minutes 14 seconds. In an incredible career, Caller Ou ran 101 times and won 51 races including the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle in 1863 and 1864. | Over Round 110% |
